WHAT'S THE
CONCEPT
Aquí y allá/Here and there es un proyecto que examina las prácticas contemporáneas sobre arte y política. Este proyecto reúne a practicantxs y pensadorxs de las artes trabajando en dos contextos distintos: Argentina y el Reino Unido. Pese a que ambos países poseen historias diferentes y actualmente viven realidades sociales distintas, ambos están atravesando grandes cambios políticos bajo el reinado del neoliberalismo. Desde la creación de “enemigos internos” a la aplicación de políticas de austeridad, ciertas experiencias compartidas nos acercan más allá de la distancia geográfica.
Para este primer ciclo anual del proyecto, hemos elegido como temática La Calle/Lo Público. El proyecto consistió en 6 disparadores/ provocaciones, uno cada dos meses, los cuales fueron compartidos con pensadorxs y practicantes en Argentina y el Reino Unido, convocándolxs a que respondieran con un texto corto o imagen. Cada disparador/ provocación buscó explorar aspectos específicos del tema La Calle / Lo Público en la práctica estético-política contemporánea. A través de este experimento, nos preguntamos: ¿qué podemos aprender del modo en que practicamos y pensamos el arte y la política en estos dos polos?

Aquí y allá/ Here and there is a project that examines contemporary practice on art and politics. The project brings together doers and thinkers from the arts working in two different contexts: Argentina and the UK. While both countries carry different histories and are currently living distinct social realities, they are both going through major political changes under the rule of neoliberalism. From the creation of ‘enemies within’ to the enforcement of austerity policies, certain shared experiences bring us closer despite the geographical distance.

For the first one-year cycle of the project, we have chosen the theme of The Streets/The ‘Public’. The project consisted of 6 prompts/provocations, one every two months, which were shared with thinkers and practitioners in Argentina and the UK, asking them to respond with a short text or image. Each prompt sought to explore specific aspects of the theme of The Streets/The ‘Public’ in contemporary aesthetic-political practice. Through this experiment, we ask: what can we learn from the way we do and think art and politics in these two poles?

El trabajo de Jacinta está enfocado en el desarrollo de prácticas artísticas-curatoriales, vinculando arte, política e investigación. Co-fundadora y curadora en 2015 de (experiencia)HIEDRA, destinado al desarrollo de proyectos curatoriales, espacio de arte contemporáneo autogestionado y sin fines de lucro, generador de narrativas críticas de creación e investigación artística y curatorial a partir de la experimentación y el diálogo. Sus prácticas tienen como elemento fundante su localidad, contextual e histórica, con una fuerte raigambre en el espacio público. A partir de agosto 2018 al abandonar (experiencia)HIEDRA su espacio fisico fijo Jacinta crea (experiencia)HIEDRA PÚBLICA, espacio intersticial de investigación y prácticas sociales en el espacio público. Licenciada en Ciencia Política por la Universidad de Buenos Aires. En 2018 participó del Programa de arte de artistas y curadores de la Universidad Di Tella. En los últimos años formó parte de diferentes proyectos artísticos y curatoriales Es miembro de CRIA, Creando Redes Independientes y Artísticas, junto a otros artistas y colectivos de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Jacinta's work focuses on the development of artistic-curatorial practices, linking art, politics and research. In 2015 she co-founded (experiencia)HIEDRA, a self-managed and non-profit contemporary art space aimed at the development of curatorial projects; a generator of critical narratives of creation and artistic and curatorial research based on experimentation and dialogue. (experiencia)HIEDRA's practices are based on its locality, contextual and historical, with strong roots in the public space. In August 2018 (experiencia) HIEDRA left its fixed physical space and Jacinta created (experiencia)HIEDRA PÚBLICA, an interstitial space for research and social practices in the public space. She has a Degree in Political Science from the University of Buenos Aires, and in 2018 she participated in the Artists and Curators Art Program of the Di Tella University. In recent years she was part of different artistic and curatorial projects. Jacinta is a member of CRIA, Creating Independent and Artistic Networks, together with other artists and collectives of the City of Buenos Aires. In November 2018 CRIA developed The Creature, a performance seminar.

Paula sitúa su trabajo en la intersección del arte, la investigación, el activismo, la curaduría y la educación. Su práctica y su investigación giran en torno a la relación entre la estética y la política, particularmente en relación a la práctica cultural contemporánea y a movimientos de justicia social y ambiental. Es Doctora en Análisis Social y Cultural por King’s College London, y actualmente se desempeña como Investigadora en CAMEo Research Institute for Cultural and Media Economies, Universidad de Leicester. Sus publicaciones recientes incluyen el libro artWORK: Art, Labour and Activism, compilado junto a Alberto Cossu y Jessica Holtaway (2017), y la monografía Performance Action: The Politics of Art Activism (2018). A la par de su trabajo de investigación, ha curado y contribuído a numerosos proyectos artísticos y exposiciones en el Reino Unido y en Argentina, y es parte de varias campañas y movimientos de justicia social y ambiental. Paula es co-fundadora de PLANK (Politically-Led Art & Networked Knowledge).
Paula situates her work at the intersection of art, research, activism, curatorial practice and education. Her practice and research are concerned with the relationship between aesthetics and politics, particularly in relation to contemporary cultural practice and to environmental and social justice movements. She holds a PhD in Social and Cultural Analysis (King’s College London), and is currently a Research Associate at CAMEo Research Institute for Cultural and Media Economies, University of Leicester. Paula’s recent publications include the edited collection artWORK: Art, Labour and Activism, co-edited with Alberto Cossu and Jessica Holtaway (2017) and the monograph Performance Action: The Politics of Art Activism (2018). In addition to her research, she has curated and contributed to numerous art projects and exhibitions in the UK and in Argentina, and is part of various social justice and environmental campaigns and grassroots groups. She is a co-founder of PLANK (Politically-Led Art & Networked Knowledge).
